Palo Duro Canyon, Lighthouse Trail

During our travels from Texas to New Mexico, we decided to stop for a few nights to explore the Palo Duro Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world. Our first trail was the Lighthouse Trail, the most popular trail in the canyon. It was three miles of walking one way to see a rock tower sitting atop an island of stone. We climbed up next to it, where the ground was flat, and the wind pushed us around. It was a fantastic view, but, we still had to climb to the top. We wrapped around the second cliff and climbed up a steep path where we hung out taking pictures. After that, we decided to have a little picnic in the shade of the formation. We filled up on crackers, cheese, and meat before walking the three miles back. This walk was one of my favorite hikes we have gone on so far; we hope you enjoyed this trip as much as we did.
