Fort Jackson

Possibly one of the most exciting parts of our trip was walking around inside Fort Jackson. Our journey began after running into the canal in the previous post. We had to take a long car ride involving a barge trip across the Mississippi. Then, after a little more driving, we went down a gravel road that led us to an 8-foot tall wall that was surrounded by a moat. Next, we walked across a wooden bridge into the fort, which was far more open than we expected. The Fort is in the process of becoming a big tourist attraction, and possibly a place for reenactments. Outside the fort was a smaller defense, overlooking the river, that had a flag post, empty rooms, and a bunch of information. A little further down the road, was a tunnel that led into a space only about 4 ½ feet tall. This adventure was a lot of fun, and we hope you enjoy it!
